After a brief tour through the old town of Savona to arrive Priamar, the famous fortress where he was imprisoned Giuseppe Mazzini; symbol of the city from the imposing structure above the port was the first part of the town and is now home of the Archaeological Museum of Savona. Continuing the walk by car will reach the center, where you can visit the Cathedral and the adjoining Sistine Chapel. Continue driving through the narrow streets of the “carrugi” of the old town, we see the medieval square Sixtus IV and arrive at the town center, then visit all the most beautiful squares including Piazza Mameli and his monument to the death of all wars. We will cross the shopping street Paleocapa and we get the glass palace, the seat of the provincial administration, and the train station, both designed by the engineer and architect P.L. Nervi. On the waterfront so we get to see the Ligurian coast. At the end of the visit of Savona reach one of the oldest pottery workshops in Albissola. In the pottery shop we can admire and learn about the different traditional decorations: “Albissola old”, white and blue, “center line” of Liguria, with its delicate colors, and we can also find some modern decorations inspired by the drawings of Paul Klee. Back Savona, if the weather permits, we can see the splendid Ligurian Gulf and we will move in the first hinterland to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy where beautiful works of art and magnificent votive offerings of sailors who escaped the fury of sea.
The journey continues with the shift to regional reserve of the island of Bergeggi Park, where an incredible oasis protected preserves a corner of Mediterranean sea with beautiful views and romantic. After we return to the ship via the old Via Aurelia.
